8. Lyrics Training.

Using music to learn languages is an old thing, I used to photocopy the lyrics from the lp’s when I was younger, but this is really a great alternative. Be careful when you start because it can get addictive even in your mother tongue! Choose a fave song and a level of difficulty then try to fill in the missing words in the subtitles while the track is playing. Great way to improve your listening skills and… typing speed.

7. Google Word coach. A fun way to expand your vocabulary right from your search results.

It’s a google feature, only on mobile. It’s a quick game, about sinonyms and opposites. If you don’t know any word, at the end of the five questions’ round you can see the definitions. It has increasing levels, each time you do two perfect rounds you get a card to level up. The main downside is that it doesn’t seem to remember your score. If you close your search and try it again, you go back to 0 and have to level up from the start, so each time you play you start from the beginging.

6. Language Zen. The future of language learning.

Language Zen is a website like duolingo with lessons from English to Spanish. And they are preparing a few more languages. It has “courses” and songs. If you choose Courses you can study sets of words and  chosen phrases related to a subject and if you choose songs you’ll see the transalation of the lyrics, sentence by sentence. If you don’t want to go pro, you’ll be able to use it only for about half an hour and then wait for three hours. It’s very nice and easy to navigate but sometimes mixes Spanish from Spain and from Latin America.
